There is nothing quite like Autumn in New York. I've lived in NYC for 13 years and Autumn is always my favorite season. So in honor of New York in the fall time, lets make a variation of the New York Sour (which is one of my all time favorite cocktails involving whiskey or bourbon.

The New York Sour is basically a whiskey sour with a red wine floater! So I took the New York Sour and instead of the red wine floater, I did an apple cider floater (although you can't really see the floater because its the same color as the whiskey sour. Nevertheless, it's delicious!)
Autumn in New York Sour 🍂🍎🍏
- 2 oz Rye Whiskey (@sazerachouse)
- 1 oz fresh squeeze lemon juice
- 3/4 oz spiced simple syrup (I'll be sharing that recipe soon)
- 1 egg white (I use pasteurized egg whites)
- 1 oz Apple Cider
- Orange peels
- star anise for garnish
Method:
In a cocktail shaker, add your whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white. Give it a VERY good froth using a hand held frother. Once the liquid is good and frothy, add some ice and orange peels and shake shake shake! In fresh rocks glass add fresh ice and pour out your frothy goodness using a strainer into the glass. You've just made a whiskey sour! Now lets add the apple cider floater. With a regular spoon, stick the tip of the spoon into your frothed drink at a slanted angle. Pour your 1 oz of apple cider over the back of the spoon into your whiskey sour. #garnish your cocktail with a star anise and viola! You are ready for Autumn in New York! This is best enjoyed sipping on a crisp fall after new in NYC!
Enjoy!
