There's something about the spooky season that brings out a unique flair in everything we do, from our attire to our home decor, and most importantly, our cocktails. Today, we're featuring the BATberry Spicy Margarita, a drink inspired by the enchanting spirit of Halloween and a nod to all Batman fans out there. This cocktail is not just a feast for your tastebuds but also a fun way to pay homage to Alfred Pennyworth (the beloved character from Batman), after whom my dog Alfred is named. So, let's dive into the world of BAT puns and mix ourselves a tantalizing margarita.

This recipe serves one and includes a blend of the following ingredients:

BATberry Spicy Margarita:

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Tequila

  • A handful of blackberries

  • 1 Jalapeno for the garnish

  • 1 oz lime juice

  • 1/2 oz homemade jalapeño simple syrup (recipe below)

  • 1/2 oz triple sec or cointreau

***Safety note: When handling jalapenos, always use gloves and avoid touching your eyes. Method Begin by adding blackberries, jalapeno simple syrup, and lime juice into a cocktail mixing glass. Use a muddler to blend them until the mixture is smooth. Transfer this mixture into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. You may need to use a spoon to press the mixture through the strainer to extract all the liquid as it can be quite a thick mixture. Next, add tequila followed by triple sec or cointreau into the shaker. Give it a lively shake! Pour the contents into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. You may want to use a strainer if you like your drink smooth (I personally have a strainer on my cocktail shaker). For the final touch, garnish with a blackberry jalapeno bat. I cut two triangles from the jalapeno (using gloves, of course) to make wings, and I place a blackberry in the middle, all skewered together. This BATberry Spicy Margarita is best enjoyed paired with a spicy meal.

Jalapeno Simple Syrup Recipe:

For the homemade jalapeños simple syrup, you'll need:

  • 1/2 Cup Hot water

  • 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar

  • 2 Sliced Jalapeños

In a bowl, stir together hot water and sugar until the sugar completely dissolves. Add in your sliced jalapeños. Stir a few times and then let it sit for either 30 minutes or leave it overnight in the fridge, covered. After it's done resting, strain the syrup into a mason jar, making sure all the seeds are strained out. Don't forget to label your jar! Your homemade jalapeno simple syrup can last in the fridge for about 1-2 weeks when sealed properly. There you have it - your BATberry Spicy Margarita is ready to rock your Halloween party. Enjoy this spooky, fun, and delicious cocktail.

Cheers to the spooky season!
