It's almost Christmas time, or should I say 'THYME'? As we prepare for the festive season, it's the perfect opportunity to create a fun and memorable cocktail that's sure to impress all your bourbon-loving friends and family. Although an Old Fashioned isn't my go-to cocktail, there's something about this concoction that gives me fancy Christmas party vibes!
This recipe brings together the rich, warm flavors of bourbon with the invigorating, aromatic notes of thyme. It's a delightful twist on the classic Old Fashioned that's perfect for a cozy Christmas evening or an elegant holiday party.
The Christmas "Thyme" Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
1 & 1/2 oz Bourbon (2 oz if you want it stronger and less sweet)
1 oz thyme simple syrup
3 dashes of angostura bitters
Snowflake ice cube sphere
Thyme for garnish
Dehydrated lemon wheel for garnish
Method: In a cocktail mixing glass, add your bourbon, thyme simple syrup and bitters. Add a handful of ice cubes and give it a good stir. Grab a chilled rocks glass, plop your snowflake ice cube sphere into your glass and strain your cocktail mixture into the rocks glass. Garnish with a couple sprigs of thyme and a lemon wheel. I prefer a dehydrated lemon wheel because it adds a more holiday-like touch. Best enjoyed at Christmas THYME or at a fancy "old fashioned" holiday party!
Thyme Simple Syrup This special ingredient is what gives the cocktail its unique flavor and festive charm. Here's how you can make it at home. Ingredients:
1/2 Cup Hot water (I like to bring it to a boil)
1/2 Cup Granulated sugar
6-8 sprigs of thyme
Method:
In a bowl, stir together the hot water and sugar until the sugar has completely dissolved. Now, add in your thyme sprigs. Give it a good couple of stirs and then let it sit for either 30 mins or overnight in the fridge covered. After it has sat, strain the mixture and funnel it into a mason jar or syrup dispenser. Be sure to label it so everyone knows what this magic elixir is! Flavor simple syrup usually lasts in the fridge sealed well for about a month.
Ornament Ice Molds
