On the 19th day of Christmas, I bring you a boozy slush! This is such a yummy treat if you love bourbon (or Whiskey). My mother in law always makes bourbon slush during the holidays, so that has definitely been a newer tradition for me.
In honor of one of the best holiday movies ever (90s kid here) and also one of my favorite whiskey cocktails, let's make a New York Sour Slush...
Kevin McCallister's New York Sour Slush
Here's what you'll need:
6.5 oz Bourbon or Rye (I used Rye)
2 oz Lemon Juice
3 oz Simple Syrup
6 oz Orange Juice
4 oz water
0.5 oz red wine (I like a Pinot Noir or a Cabernet Sauvignon)
Dehydrated lemon for garnish
Directions:
To make the slush part- you add your bourbon or rye, lemon juice (fresh squeezed), simple syrup, orange juice and water to a mixing glass and stir well. Transfer the liquid to a freezer safe dish and let it sit for 24-48 hours (until it reaches slushy consistency). Once the desired consistency is reached, it's time to get your slush on! Pour into your glass of choice (I used the small Bodega glass from Crate and Barrel) and scoop the slush into the glass. Leave room at the top and pour in your 0.5 oz red wine floater! Garnish with a dehydrated lemon wheel.
This drink is best enjoyed after a day of fighting off the Sticky Bandits, just like Kevin McCallister from the iconic 90's holiday movie, Home Alone. The blend of bourbon and citrus creates a refreshing and invigorating flavor profile that is sure to impress your guests. The addition of a red wine floater makes it the New York Sour, transforming this classic cocktail into a festive slush that's perfect for the holiday season.
Remember, the key to a great New York Sour Slush is using fresh ingredients and giving the slush enough time to freeze. Patience is key here - the longer you wait, the better your slush will be. So go ahead, get your ingredients, and start the freezing process today. Your future self (and your guests) will thank you.
So whether you're a fan of Home Alone, a bourbon aficionado, or just someone looking for a new holiday tradition to start, give this New York Sour Slush a try. We guarantee it will make your spirits bright.
Enjoy!
