As we enter the festive period, it's time to start considering how we can make our holiday celebrations a little bit more exciting. What better way than with a unique and enticing cocktail? On the 7th day of Christmas, I offer you just that - a drink that is not only super easy to make, but also one that can be batched for a party. Allow me to introduce you to The Blue Christmas, a cocktail inspired by Elvis' classic Christmas song, "Blue Christmas". This drink is not only sweet but also incredibly refreshing. Think of it as a blue version of the Shirley Temple, with a dash of peppermint for that festive kick.

So if you're ready to get into the Christmas spirit (or blues, as we like to call it), keep reading for the full recipe and directions.

The Blue Christmas is a cocktail that uses a combination of ingredients to create a unique flavor profile. It's a drink that, once sampled, will have your guests coming back for more.

The Blue Christmas Cocktail

Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 oz Vanilla Vodka

  • 1/4 oz Peppermint Simple Syrup (recipe available on website)

  • 1 1/2 oz Blue Curacao

  • 1/2 oz Lemon Juice

  • Sprite

  • Maraschino Cherry for garnish

  • Fresh Mint for garnish

How to Make The Blue Christmas:

Now that you've assembled your ingredients, let's get into how to make this festive cocktail.

Begin by adding your vodka, simple syrup, blue curacao and lemon juice into a tall glass. Give the mixture a stir to combine the flavors. Next, add ice, filling it almost to the top. Top your cocktail off with your sprite and give it one more stir. At this point, you're almost done. But no cocktail is complete without a garnish. So, finish it off by adding a maraschino cherry and fresh mint. And there you have it - The Blue Christmas!

This cocktail is best enjoyed while gazing out at the snow falling outside and daydreaming about warmer temperatures. It's a drink that captures the essence of the season, offering a balance of sweetness, tartness, and a hint of mint.

Peppermint Simple Syrup:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Hot water (I like to bring it to a boil)

  • 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar

  • 4-6 min candy canes

Directions: In a bowl, stir together the hot water and sugar. Continue stirring until the sugar has fully dissolved. Now, add in your candy canes. Give it a good couple of stirs and then let it sit for either 30 mins or overnight in the fridge covered. After it has sat, strain the mixture and funnel it into a mason jar or syrup dispenser. Be sure to label it so everyone knows what this magic elixir is! Flavor simple syrup usually lasts in the fridge sealed well for about 1-2 weeks.

So, why not bring a bit of Elvis' classic "Blue Christmas" to your holiday festivities this year? With this recipe in your arsenal, your holiday parties are sure to be a hit. So, mix up your own Blue Christmas, raise a glass, and say cheers to the festive season!

Cheers and Merry Christmas!
