Who doesn't love a good holiday movie to get into the spirit of the season? One of my personal favorites is "The Holiday". I think it's the perfect movie to start off with before the usual Christmas movie binge! In honor of this heartwarming romantic comedy, I wanted to share a homemade hot chocolate recipe that's inspired by my favorite scene in the movie. Remember when Graham makes hot chocolate for his daughters and is empathic that they each get exactly 5 marshmallows each in their hot chocolate? Such a sweet moment and now for a sweet holiday treat...

"The Holiday" Hot Chocolate (with 5 marshmallows)

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Whole Milk

  • 1 Tablespoon of Cocoa Powder

  • 1/2 Tablespoon granulated sugar

  • 2 Tablespoons semi sweet chocolate chips

  • 1/2 Tablespoon Peppermint Simple Syrup

  • 1/4 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

  • Whipped Cream

  • 5 Marshmallows

Method: In a saucepan, add your milk, cocoa powder and granulated sugar. Whisk these ingredients together over low heat. Once all the cocoa has fully mixed in, add in your chocolate chips. Stir the mixture until the chocolate chips have fully melted. Be sure to keep the heat at low to medium; you do not want your mixture to boil. Lastly, stir in your peppermint simple syrup and the vanilla extract.

Serve your hot chocolate immediately. Don't forget to add in your 5 marshmallows as the nod to "The Holiday" and top your drink with whipped cream! This hot chocolate is best enjoyed with your three musketeers, just like in the movie. ☺️

Peppermint Simple Syrup:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Hot water (I like to bring it to a boil)

  • 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar

  • 4-6 min candy canes

Method: In a bowl, stir together the hot water and sugar. Continue stirring until the sugar has fully dissolved. Now, add in your candy canes. Give it a good couple of stirs and then let it sit for either 30 mins or overnight in the fridge covered. After it has sat, strain the mixture and funnel it into a mason jar or syrup dispenser. Be sure to label it so everyone knows what this magic elixir is! Flavor simple syrup usually lasts in the fridge sealed well for about 1-2 weeks.

Cheers!

I hope this recipe brings a touch of movie magic to your holiday season. Whether you're watching "The Holiday" for the first time or the hundredth, sipping on this hot chocolate will surely make the experience all the more special. So, gather your loved ones, put on your favorite holiday flick, and enjoy this delicious treat. Happy holidays! For more delightful recipes, visit www.garnishyourglam.com
